TUC march

Friday, 25 March 2011 00:00

Tens of thousands of people will descend on London this weekend to protest against the coalition's spending cuts.

The 'march for the alternative', organised by the TUC, will be the first mass demonstration against the government's agenda.

The march is expected to see up to a quarter of a million people take to the streets, making it the biggest protest since the demonstration against the Iraq War in 2003, where 750,000 people turned out against the invasion.

The Metropolitan police have indicated 4,500 police officers will be mobilised, amid fears that the protest may be hijacked by violent splinter groups.
