Supplying the troops

19/08/11

The supply chain to British troops in Afghanistan is at "critical risk of failure", according to a Commons public accounts committee report.

MPs found that in the last six months over 40% of deliveries to UK forces deployed overseas were late.

An £800 million programme known as the Future Logistics Information Service aimed at overhauling the warehouse inventory management system will be introduced by 2014.

The MoD hopes that this will help resolve the problem but MPs warned that until this point the department would still be storing data in high-risk systems.
