Sara Payne phone hack

29/07/11

Disgraced and disbanded tabloid the News of the World took another blow yesterday when it was revealed that it had hacked the phone of Sarah Payne's mother.

Sara Payne had been one of the paper's few supporters, having worked closely with Rebekah Brooks and other NOTW journalists after her eight-year-old daughter Sarah was murdered.

She even wrote a heartfelt tribute to the paper in its final edition, detailing its contribution to the campaign for 'Sarah's law'.

Ms Payne had initially been told that her name did not feature in private investigator Glenn Mulcaire's notes. But the new police investigation into phone-hacking, Operation Weeting, confirmed that she did feature.
