Referendum rebellion
24/10/11

Over 70 Conservative MPs could defy David Cameron's leadership in an EU referendum vote today.
Westminster is focused on how many Tory backbenchers will choose to rebel against the government when the Commons votes on the e-petition calling for a referendum on Europe later.
Many eurosceptic Tory MPs, frustrated by the coalition government's reluctance to seek a repatriation of powers from Brussels to Britain, are determined to take a stand in spite of the government's issue of a three line whip.
As a result, a number of ministerial aides could be forced to resign before voting against ministers, in a move which would effectively rule out their chances of a promotion in a future coalition reshuffle.
