The day after huge student protests ended in widespread violence including an attack on a car containing Prince Charles, the assessment of the police response begins.
With tensions running high after the passage of the tuition fees vote, some protestors vented their frustration after being 'kettled' by police in Parliament Square.
Vandalism of the Treasury building and the Supreme Court took place, with smashed windows and an attempt to force the doors the Whitehall department.
Police were bullish in response, attacking the protestors' "wanton vandalism" and using the violence as a justification of the controversial 'containment' technique.
But demonstrators insist the police tactics increased frustration and anger among the thousands-strong crowd.
An internal police investigation is underway to determine how protestors were allowed to get so close the Royals motorcade.
