Oldham by-election heats up
Wednesday, 12 January 2011 00:00
The last day of campaigning in the Oldham East and Saddleworth by-election has begun.
Analysts expect Labour to safely win the seat, as the opposition capitalises on anger at spending cuts.
Liberal Democrat candidate Elwyn Watkins narrowly lost the seat during the general election, but he is expected to be hit by anger at Lib Dem cooperation with the Tories this time around.
Meanwhile, Conservative candidate Kashif Ali is in third place, and insists the Conservative leadership is not running a 'soft campaign' to increase the chances of a Lib Dem victory.
