National security strategy
Monday, 18 October 2010 00:00
The government has today released its appraisal of the threats Britain faces to its security.
The strategy brings the previously peripheral realm of cybersecurity to the fore along with the more traditional threats of international terrorism, small-scale wars and natural disasters.
It hints at how spending might be affected in the defence budget - though we will have to wait until tomorrow's strategic defence and security review for the full details.
According to GCHQ the UK is suffering increasing internet-borne attacks aimed at damaging infrastructure and the government.
The 'paramount' threat of terror being given such prominence in the report also suggests spending on intelligence services may be spared from drastic cuts.
