Murdoch and British media

Vince Cable's intervention to investigate Rupert Murdoch's News Corp's planned takeover of BskyB has sparked intense debate over the future of British media.
The business secretary's intervention puts the takeover on hold until the watchdog Ofcom unveils its findings by December 31st.
Opposing media groups have united to oppose the bid, claiming it will irreparably damage competition and plurality in the media.
If the move does go through, Mr Murdoch's company's will be able to outspend any other media organisation in the UK comfortably.
Labour has praised the intervention, but implied lingering media influence in Downing Street.
The European Commission is conducting its own probe into the deal and will report its first findings on December 8th.
