Megrahi release anniversary

Politicians are dealing with the consequences of Lockerbie bomber Abdelbaset al-Megrahi's release, one year on.
Scottish justice secretary Kenny MacAskill allowed Megrahi to return to a hero's welcome in Libya by freeing him on compassionate grounds. He had received medical advice suggesting Megrahi could only expect to live for another three months.
One year later and the only man convicted of Britain's worst ever terrorist atrocity remains alive. Two hundred and seventy people died in December 1988 when Pan Am flight 103 exploded over the Scottish town of Lockerbie.
The case has soured relations between Scotland and the US, where many of the victims' families are from. US senators are seeking to investigate whether energy giant BP, which was seeking oil contracts from Libya, had a role in influencing the decision over Megrahi's release.
