Libyan rescue missions

A number of military missions took place this weekend to rescue British citizens stranded in the Libyan desert.
Around 150 British nationals were extricated from remote desert bases by the RAF.
Once the British citizens safely reached Malta, the government quickly took a harder diplomatic line against the Libyan regime.
The government has revoked Muammar Gaddafi's diplomatic immunity, frozen the family's assets in the country and banned the export of uncirculated Libyan currency from the UK.
Both prime minister David Cameron and foreign secretary William Hague called on Col Gaddafi to step down immediately.
