MPs spent several hours debating the mission in Libya last night, before voting overwhelmingly to back it.

Several backbenchers, particularly Labour MPs, raised concerns about the plans.

Many MPs were worried about the lack of a clear exit strategy, while others raised concerns about mission creep and perceived western hypocrisy.

As the debate was tailing off, an opinion poll showed widespread public concern about the mission.
