Gordon Brown's News International allegations
12/07/11
Gordon Brown has accused News International of having links with the "criminal underworld".
The former Labour prime minister said he had been "in tears" after the Sun newspaper had published a story about his son Fraser's cystic fibrosis in October 2006.
This follows on from his allegations that the Sunday Times illegally obtained personal details in order to publish a front page story on his purchase of a flat owned by Robert Maxwell at a "knock down price".
Mr Brown told the BBC this story had been completely incorrect and that News International had intended to end his ministerial career.
The intervention of the ex-PM has reignited phone hacking scandal which last week resulted in the closure of News International title the News of the World.
