GCSE Results 2010
Tuesday, 24 August 2010 00:00
Approximately 750,000 students in England, Wales and Northern Ireland await their GCSE results this Thursday, amid growing pressure on jobs for school leavers.
The chronic shortfall of university places for post A-level student is shifting greater demand onto those jobs and college courses that would normally be filled by school leavers after GCSEs.
The standard of results is expected to rise again this year, as it has almost perennially since the introduction of the qualification in 1988.
Pass rates for English and Maths are expected to fall, however.
