Five-a-day parenting
04/08/2011
A liberal thinktank has urged the government to intervene and help child development by launching a "five-a-day" parenting campaign.
By adapting the successful "five-a-day" concept for fruit and vegetables the government will be able to encourage an improvement in parenting, a subject which has a substantial stigma attached to it according to the report.
The five daily activities recommended are play, talking with the television off, praise, reading, and providing a nutritious diet.
The CentreForum report on parenting comes in the wake of former Labour welfare minister Frank Field's explosive claim last week that many children do not even know their name by the age of five.
