Ed Miliband speech: The aftermath

Ed Miliband gave his first big speech as leader of the Labour party yesterday.

The former energy and climate change secretary tried to signal a firm break with the past, criticising city salaries, the war in Iraq and Labour's policies on civil liberties.

But the event was overshadowed by uncertainty over his brother David's future.

The defeated sibling must decide today whether to stand for election to the shadow Cabinet, amidst mounting speculation that he has decided to withdraw from frontline politics.
