Diamond Jubilee

08/03/12

MPs have paid tribute HM Queen Elizabeth II in the Address to Her Majesty.

The prime minister and the leader of the opposition praised the Queen for her service and the influence she commands.

They cited the success of the former colonies which had chosen and the reach of the values of the Commonwealth, as well as the support and respect the British people feel for their monarch.

The Queen was also praised for her personal strength, her selflessness and her stoicism in the face of family tragedy.

The diamond jubilee marks HM Queen Elizabeth II's sixtieth year as queen - she is only the second monarch to have reigned this long, the other being Queen Victoria.
