Crime maps

Tuesday, 1 February 2011 00:00

The Home Office has launched a crime map initiative, allowing residents to see offences which took place in their area.

The site was unavailable at launch, as a flood of users tried to use it, but ministers are hoping it will become a valuable part of their community policing initiative.

Figures from the maps should allow communities to make informed choices about the type of policing they require of their future elected policy chiefs.

Labour said it welcomed the maps but argued that cuts to police numbers would overshadow any good they might do.
