Chris Huhne energy company attack
20/09/11
Confrontation is brewing between the government and the big six energy companies after a combative Chris Huhne speech.
Speaking at the Liberal Democrat conference the energy and climate change secretary suggested that a tougher stance was needed on energy companies to ensure consumers get the best deal.
He also called for Ofgem to be handed the power to punish the companies for "bad behaviour" through a money-back to customers scheme.
British Gas, Scottish Power, Scottish and Southern, Npower, E.On and EDF are considered to be the "big six" energy companies in the UK.
Mr Huhne's attack comes in the wake of substantial energy price rises from providers.
