Chinese premier visit
27/06/11
Improving trade relations is the focus of a visit by the Chinese premier Wen Jiabao, much to the dissatisfaction of human rights groups.
In a three day visit to the UK Mr Jiabao will meet with David Cameron and it is expected they will agree business deals worth over £1 billion.
This is despite calls from human rights groups for the prime minister to address China's human rights record.
The two month imprisonment of artist Ai Weiwei by the Chinese authorities without any charge being brought continues to elicit heavy criticism despite the fact he has now been released.
Dissident Hu Jia was also recently released having served three and a half years in jail, but there remains a large police presence outside his home, placing him effectively under house arrest.
