Charity cuts
02/08/11
More than 2,000 charities face deep cuts and many have lost funding altogether in a severe blow to David Cameron's 'big society' agenda.
Anti-cuts group False Economy made over 250 freedom of information requests to local councils in an attempt to quantify the effect of cuts on England's charities.
The union funded organisation found that net funding reductions are expected to substantially exceed £110 million this year, with many large local authorities yet to finalise where their cuts will fall.
Charities connected to children and young people are to be hit hardest by the cuts.
