Cameron on multiculturalism
Monday, 7 February 2011 00:00
Prime minister David Cameron's speech on multiculturalism has prompted a hailstorm of controversy.
Speaking at the Munich Security Conference this weekend, the prime minister declared that multiculturalism has failed in Britain and called for a stronger national identity to combat extremism.
His comments came on the same day that the English Defence League (EDL) marched on Luton, leading to criticism of the timing of his speech.
Mr Cameron also called for increased scrutiny of public money going to Muslim groups, arguing it should be withdrawn if they fail to tackle extremism.
