Bias and the BBC

The status of the BBC came to the fore today, with the visit of its director general to Downing Street to discuss political coverage.
Mark Thompson was pictured with a list of programmes apparently geared towards explaining the coalition's spending review, sparking allegations of impartiality.
The future nature of the corporation's licence fee funding hangs in the balance, with the coalition raking all areas of government spending for savings.
The row has reignited arguments over alleged political bias at the corporation, as Mr Thompson has admitted the BBC used to be 'massively' left-wing in the 1980s.
