Armed forces job cuts
01/09/11
Almost 2,000 armed service personnel are being told that they are losing their jobs today.
Compulsory redundancies will make up roughly half of the 920 Army and 930 RAF job cuts in the first round of defence cuts.
The Gurkhas are facing the heaviest cuts, with 140 soldiers expected to face redundancy.
Defence cuts follow on from an eight per cent reduction in the MoD's budget in the comprehensive spending review.
There are plans for as many as 22,000 jobs to be shed from the MoD by 2015.
