Labour shadow justice minister: Blanket referral fee ban not answer

Andy Slaughter, Labour's shadow justice minister, questions why the government ban applies to all referral fees:

"We are supportive of attempts to crack down on abuses in the no-win, no-fee market, particularly for road traffic accidents. But it is strange that the Ministry of Justice is seeking to ban all referral fees when the government themselves admit that there is no universal definition of what constitutes a referral fee.

"It is also not clear how organisations such as those campaigning for people with spinal injuries and asbestos related illnesses, who refer people to experienced lawyers in return for help with funding their activities, will be able to continue their important work if all referral fees are simply outlawed."
